El papa Francisco deseó que Lisboa, donde llegó hoy para participar en la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud (JMJ) y a la que definió «ciudad del encuentro», pueda «inspirar caminos para afrontar juntos las grandes cuestiones de Europa y el mundo».
Así lo escribió Francisco en el libro de honor del Palacio Nacional de Belém, residencia del presidente de la República de Portugal, donde acudió para una reunión.
En el mensaje, el papa se define «peregrino de esperanza en Portugal» y que reza y espera «que este país de corazones jóvenes siga tendiendo la mano hacia horizontes de fraternidad».
«Lisboa, ciudad del encuentro, inspire caminos para afrontar juntos las grandes cuestiones de Europa y del mundo», concluye el mensaje.
Francisco llegó hoy a Portugal y tras un breve saludo en un hangar de la base área militar Figo Seco, se dirigió al palacio Nacional de Belém donde el presidente Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa le esperó para las presentaciones oficiales y el desfile de los cuerpos de las Fuerzas Armadas.
Posteriormente, Francisco y el presidente portugués se reunieron en privado y se produjo el intercambio tradicional de regalos y la firma del papa en el libro de honor.
Después, el papa se trasladará al Centro Cultural de Belém y ante cerca 1.000 personas, entre autoridades, representantes del cuerpo diplomático y de la sociedad civil, pronunciará su primer discurso de carácter más político en tierras portuguesas, pues en 2017 viajó a Portugal, pero sólo visitó Fátima.
En la nunciatura, donde residirá Francisco estos días, mantendrá otras dos reuniones con el presidente de la Asamblea de Portugal, Augusto Ernesto Santos y el primer ministro, António Costa.
Concluirá el día en el monasterio de los Jerónimos, donde se reunirá con los miembros de la iglesia portuguesa, en un encuentro en el que se espera una mención a los datos del informe sobre los abusos sexuales a menores publicado recientemente y que habla de 4.800 casos en los últimos 70 años.
